My Story

On May 1, 2010, bacterial meningitis changed my life forever. I spent two weeks in a coma, and when I woke up, I had lost both of my hands and both of my feet.

The road back wasn't easy. It involved three months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers, learning to do everything from scratch. But I refused to let my circumstances define my future.

Today, I am 31 years old and fiercely independent. I've learned to walk again on prosthetics, I work out regularly with my personal trainer, and I live in my own apartment with my fiancé.

I am also a passionate advocate for meningitis awareness. My story helped change Indiana law to require meningitis boosters for 6th graders. I believe that sharing my journey can save lives and inspire others to find hope in their darkest moments.

Advocacy
